The Stancija “Boškarin“ is situated close to the local road between Višnjan and Bacva, at only 1 km from the centre of Višnjan. The area is very quiet and suitable for quality rearing of the original Istrian ox.
The Istrian oxen are accommodated in comfortable stables and, at their disposal, they also have a large and nicely appointed yard, as well as the surrounding area measuring over 12.5 acres of fenced land.
Realising the issue of exstinction of the Istrian ox, Mr. Aldo Štifanic was one of the pioneers in the project of saving this kind of oxen within the Association of the Breeders of the Istrian ox. For that purpose, he provided the location where the oxen can feel comfortable and procreate. At the same time, as these oxen are typical of the Istrian area, he saw an opportunity to present this wealth to the interested visitors.
The Stancija Boškarin, i.e., Geno Park can only be visited in organised groups, with advance notice given by phone No.: 091-5272683. The visiting hours are not determined.
Within an hour long programme, the owner, Aldo Štifanic, offers to visitors an outline of the history of the original Istrian ox "boskarin", from the beginning of its development, through the phases of its exploitation in farming, disappearing and extinction, to the moment of the rescuing of the breed. He familiarises the visitors with the characteristics of the Istrian ox, explaining why it is specific and how it differs from the other breeds.
Following the presentation, the owner guides the visitors to the stables, where they can see the cattle consisting of 30 different breeds of oxen: bulls, steers, cows and bullocks, as well as 14 donkeys. Under the owner's supervision, the interested visitors can take their own pictures with the oxen, thus preserving the memory of the Istrian «boskarin» for the rest of their lives.
