Masked carnival is traditionally organised every year in the Municipality of Višnjan. The master announces the beginning of the carnival, the town keys being passed on from the Mayor of the town, and declares that, in the next few days, he rules the municipality. The same day, a ball is staged. The weekend following the passing on of the keys, in the restaurant «Montana» the Festive masked ball is held, during which the best masks are rewarded with valuable awards and, in the school hall, the children's masked carnival is held and the programme is enriched with various games.
A huge masked and motorised procession of masked groups go around all villages in the Višnjan municipality area in an organised fashion, join the masked groups at the procession in Porec. A couple of days later, an effigy is burned in the centre of Višnjan.
